To help prepare you for your trip, we at Amazon Riders have compiled the following list of things that are helpful to know before your trip:
The season in the Amazon divides in two: The rainy season and the dry season.
During the rainy season ( December – May ) we only move around by a boat or a canoe which means we can get much deeper into the jungle and observe more from the animal world, hidden high up in the tree tops. The water level goes up to about 70 meters and it is therefore possible to jump in for a swim too.
During the dry season ( June – November ) the water levels can drop to as low as 5 meters, which means that sometimes it is more difficult to reach our lodge by water. Instead, we reach it by walking a beautiful jungle trail for about 30 minutes taking our luggage with us. Therefore, make sure you reduce your stuff to a minimum. All the essentials are provided by the company and I will list the things you need to take with you further down below.
The dry season is perfect for fishing and it’s easy to catch many different species of piranhas and other fish species. We walk the jungle in places where there had been water for the other half of the year and thanks to many plants being more exposed and more accessible, this is the perfect opportunity to learn much about the plant world.
What to bring with you:
- Mosquito repellent
- Sun screen and sun glasses
- Flash lights (head lights are perfect)
- Thin, long pants
- Thin, long sleeve shirts
- Swimming suit
- Rain coat
- Extra money for the Bar Service ( beer or coke )
- Good sense of humor and an adventurer’s spirit!
Please note: mosquitoes are attracted to black clothes, therefore it’s always better to wear light colored clothes (white or beige).
Thank you for reading, we look forward to riding the Amazon with you!
